Two-Deep Policy:
- Acadia Minor Hockey follows the “Two-Deep Method” of supervision mandated by Hockey Canada. Two (2) approved adults are to be present in the dressing room with players at all times, especially when players are showering or changing. These adults must be members of the team staff and have completed either RIS for Hockey Canada Activity Leaders or the previous Speak-Out program AND have submitted an up-to-date Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check
- PLAYERS MUST BE SUPERVISED BY 2 ADULTS AT ALL TIMES
- AMHA takes this policy very seriously and will require coaches to ensure this policy is followed. It is suggested that coaches assign 2 back-up room monitors for their team each season to ensure the Two Deep Method is applied consistently.
DEFINITIONS:
Parent Helper – someone who is listed on the official team roster and is used for assistance with the two-deep policy in the dressing room before and after games/practices. Parent helpers require the Respect in Sport for Volunteers and a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
On-Ice Volunteer – someone who assists on the ice during practices. These individuals require the same qualifications as any other coach on the team. It is recommended to list them as an assistant coach in case they are required on the bench at some time. Registered players that help with younger age groups on the ice can do so through the Hockey Nova Scotia On-Ice Helper Policy. These players are not required to be on the team list of the team they help with, however, they are not permitted on the bench during games.
Trainer - trainers are not permitted on the ice for practice other than to tend to an injured player. Teams may list more than one (1) trainer although only one (1) trainer is permitted on the bench during any game.
Manager – a person who volunteers to help a team with booking ice time, submitting tournament applications, making travel plans, and coordinating team budgets and fundraising events. This person does not go on the bench during games and does not go on the ice during practices
Safety Rep – a team volunteer who receives information, updates, and local facility guidelines from the AMHA Safety Rep and relays that information to the coaches, managers, players, and parents as needed. Safety Reps are required to submit a valid CRC and complete HU Planning a Safe Return to Hockey
